Jeg har et hjem
I Have a Home

FOLK SONG FROM NORTHERN NORWAY

TRANSLATION BY DR. ALF LUNDER KNUDSEN

I have a home, a heavenly home, to which my longing remains.
On earth my home is not, oh no, there up, up there I go.
My spirit, which belonged to earth, now has a higher goal.
Now I’m a stranger and guest where I used to feel at home.

I have a home, a heavenly/ divine home, I say once more.
And sing my song thus until I stand before the Lamb,
And in a New Jerusalem blending it with that of the angels,
And blessed delight in my home, towards which I wander.
