The text was written by prolific Norwegian hymn-writer Elias Blix (1869-91). The melody was composed by Adolf D. Thomsen (1852-1903) former conductor of the world’s oldest continuously operating symphony orchestra (1765), Musikkselskabet Harmoniens Orkester in Bergen and well known as church organist and director of several choruses and orchestras in Northern Norway.
The success of the song was immediate and has also earned the nickname “Nordlendingenes Nasjonalsang” – North Norway Citizen’s National Anthem.
