The Norsemen

The “Norsemen” is the resident male chorus of Sonja Lodge, Sons of Norway in Eugene, Oregon, and a member of the Pacific Coast Norwegian Singers Association. The Norsemen sing at numerous Lodge functions during the year, such as: Syttende Mai; Leif Erickson Dinner; community appearances at senior residence facilities during the Christmas holidays; the Scandinavian Festival in Junction City; the annual PCNSA Sangerfest concert; and following the Lapskaus and Torsk dinners, served by the Norsemen themselves.

The Norsemen rehearse on the second and fourth Mondays at the Sons of Norway Lodge, 710 McKinley Street in Eugene, from 7:30 till 9:00, starting the week after Labor Day till Sangerfest in late June, under the direction of Barry Anderson. New singers are always welcome, there are no auditions, one does not need to speak the Norwegian language and visitors are always welcome sit in on a rehearsal.

The annual calendar of events somewhat follows the schedule below.

  September Rehearsals start.
New members dinner.
  October Leif Erickson Dinner for the Sons of Norway lodge.
  November Torsk Dinner — we serve dinner and sing.
  December Monday evening performances at retirement centers.
Christmas Party.
  February Chorus Birthday Party — dessert and recruitment.
  April Lapskaus Dinner.

  June Sangerfest — Eugene in 2019.
  August Scandinavian Festival in Junction City with the Thorsmen from Salem. Norsemen Picnic.
